Ah, feels good to be back. No real excuse for the hiatus. It just happened.

Lately, I am obsessed (beyond reasonable explanation) with pink sapphires. I take that back, I've always loved sapphires (the blue ones.) The pink, is a little new. I had a mild obsession with the color pink back in high school. I was on the girls soccer team and we had a few summer scrimmages with other schools, and since we didn't get our soccer uniforms before school started we had to craft our own.

I took the helm of this project along with my friend Laura and Shelby. We dyed x-large boys tee shirts a pale pink, printed of a soccer ball with "Stonington High School" written underneath. On the back we put a nickname and number of our team mates. I was "O'Nasty", Laura was "Fierce Pierce", and Shelby "Dirty M." The pink color of the shirt softened our tongue in cheek nicknames and I could have worn that thing everyday.

Since then, never have I ever (haha oh high school) been so obsessed with pink. Until now. I can't get this little beauty out of my mind. I've been wearing a similar (totally not sapphire) bracelet and been wishing it was actually the glory that is this bracelet. Don't think I haven't thought of every possible way to justify the $1595.00 price tag. It's so pretty. Look here she's playing with her friends.

To post more!! No seriously. Here is a glimpse of my latest project. Gardening! While the evenings here in Chicago haven't been very warm, I have started my garden. These are my peas. I planted them with some 6 year olds and in less then a week these little guys are growing like mad! The basil hasn't really taken but hopefully it will start as well. Not sure about anyone else but I am very excited about Spring and Summer.

Well. The back to school project is going. Sort of. In all honesty, I need to commit to it. My hour a day has been lost over the last few weeks. I am planning to get on track. Probably not until next week. Bare with me. I might be posting some jewels I am drooling over in the mean time. When in doubt post something sparkly.

Art Monday I

This is my sketchbook. Pretty simple run of the mill sketchbook. I did add an envelope on it so I could have a triangle tool on hand.

You can see said tool poking out here. Also the envelope broke while I was trying to get the triangle. I fixed it with the yellow duct tape.

In my sketchbook I sketch a lot of my pieces. I also make little notes like "knotted leather." If an archeologist finds my work, I want them to know what my plan was in case the picture isn't totally clear.
Planning a necklace for Spring '11. I am very into shells.

Every night before I go to bed, I think about this necklace. How I am going to make it. What colors it's going to have in it. When am I going to have the time to make. Perhaps next Monday?

The Going Back to School Project

Many of my friends are going, have gone, or planning to go back to school. I admire these courageous souls. At times I even envy them- then finals roll around and I don't. At this moment in time I am not looking to go back to school, but instead take a journey to the days of elementary school. I am going to put myself on a schedule, where for one hour a day I am going do one of the following activities:

Art
Health
Music
Gym (2 times per week because that's how we rolled at Dean's Mill School)

I am also going to post a daily blog post about what I did that particular day. Let me break it down.

Monday's will be an art day. I usually have a few free hours Monday mornings to get something on paper- a doodle, painting, or jewelry that I'm conjuring up for my Spring '11 line. I will even try to make it to a museum or other art activity.

Tuesday's and Thursday's will be a gym day. I am currently trying to get some physical activity in everyday but want to really push it two days a week. As soon as this snow starts going away I am going to try to run 5 days a week.

Wednesday's will be a music day. It may be sharing my latest playlist, favorite band, or reading an article about a band.

Friday's will be a health day. Whether it's taking a yoga class, reading something about a gluten free diet, or buying healthy food. Friday will be my day for health.

I'm also on a mission to publish more frequently about jewelry. That is of course what this blog is all about! I am definitely going to use this blog as a means to organize and motivate my little project. So stay tuned! Doodles will be posted shortly!

Today was a great day because I saw one of these bad boys parked on Lincoln Ave in the Chi. I love a wagoneer. The one I saw was white and pristine in only the way a Wagoneer can be pristine. If I could I would by one of these bad boys and go cross country visiting all of the National Forests on my way. I would also fill the car with lots of rescue dogs and my boyfriend. I mean really, do you need anything else?

I would like a credenza-esq piece of furniture. I love this one from Anthropologie. Imagine a crisp white pillar candle on top or an orchid!

There is one aspect of this piece that is severely lacking. All those drawers are not actually drawers. Such a disappointment right? When I see something like this I immediately envision all the paper, beads, and other knick knacks I can neatly tuck away into it.

This piece does have spacious drawers on one side and a cupboard on the other. However, the illusion of those thin drawers (ones I would imagine to be in a printers shop circa 1865) is not enough for me. Don't tease me with those drawer posers, I want the real deal! Also the $1698.00 price tag isn't too appealing either (not including a $250 shipping fee.) Alas, the search continues.

I did it! Yay, I'm so excited to share with you all the crafts I've been working on this month!

Casey and I don't have a tree, fireplace, or anywhere else cute to decorate. So I decorated our bookshelf! It's the IKEA expedit which we put together ourselves. It was a labor of love because I love it! It's the first thing you see when you walk into our home and I am obsessed with it!

I really wanted our first Christmas to feel special. So I made us both stockings. Here's mine.

Here's Casey's (filled.) I sewed, embrodiered, and adhered everything myself. Casey thinks they are too narrow (and they are) but they're cute.

Here is my favorite. Our Wreath. I made pom poms for my Halloween costume last year so re-purposed the extras for the wreath. It was a little bland so I spiced it up with some tinsel. (extra tinsel was used to decorate the bookcase.)

I did a watercolor/pen and ink/ pencil drawing of Casey's parents dog, for their Christmas gift. I am pretty happy with it!

Hello Loyal Readers. I know I am up to my old tricks and not posting regularly. I am in full craft mode. Which I will get around to sharing post holidays (unfortunately). However, I did want to drop in and share that tomorrow evening I will be watch one of the best Christmas movies out there. With whom you ask? Why the little lady I babysit for (ahem she is just shy of 6.) I am ecstatic her mother is allowing me to show it to her as there are some choice words and questionable scenes throughout. Alas, I am so glad I get to watch this with her for her first viewing. She is going to be giggling the whole time! That is all for now. Hope everyone is getting their shopping done and staying warm.

Alright. Confession. I love Oprah. She is amazing. Lately I am crying every time I watch an episode. Fortunately I have someone who understands. This morning, I had a dream that Oprah called me in for an interview. Upon arriving at Harpo, Oprah herself escorted me to a table where a 90's Mariah Carey and Gayle were seated along with a bunch of other people. I didn't get to find out what I was there for but it was a very pleasant dream.

I had an interview with Harpo once and it definitely did not go as great as my dream. I think the producer felt bad for me and showed me around the studio. I do have a little momento...

I was in NYC last weekend and it seems like the week got away from me. Once arriving back in the Chi, I had to work until 4am (which I wasn't expecting.) Reasons Why Everyone Should Have an Indian Wedding

Oh Allison and Nirav's wedding was so much fun. A total cultural experience! Casey and I had such a blast. Sorry for not sharing these sooner but here are some of the best moments from the weekend. Also Indian women have some serious jewelry. Wish I took more shots of that.

1. Mehendi- The art of henna painted on the hand. Yes, it's still on my hand today.
2. The Carriage- Indian tradition calls for 5 or 7 riders.
(they had 7- Nirav's sister was next to him at the other side of him. The carriage driver is included)

3. We got to dress up in the traditional garb
... and it was awesome.

4. Nirav's dad is an amazing dancer. He pulled me on the floor and we boogied away. He danced the whole weekend. Man after my own heart.

5. During the ceremony they gave us pistachio ice cream.
6. Allison was transformed into an Indian goddess. 5 different outfits for the weekend!

I am mildly obsessed with Mad Men, as most people who watch are. I love the cliff hangers from episode to episode and can't wait for a new season to start. However, I am down right P.O.'d about the conclusion of this past season. My outrage stems from the scene depicted in the image above. Usually I am a sucker for a good engagement scene and diamond ring. This time I could barely watch. Don Draper, WHY? Megan, really? So cliche! It was Anna's ring dammit! Alright I am done. The ring was pretty very antique. I am now going to Erie Basin to see if I can find something similar. Thanks for reading the rant. I will likely have a countdown widget on the blog when hear when season 5 starts.

Sorry for the delay. So much has happened since my last post! I am inspired to write today because I had an oddly flattering occurrence happen. A boyfriend of one of my friends bought her these earrings and the fabulous tribal necklace. He emailed me yesterday to say that my poor friends apartment was broken into and the only thing they took were these earrings! While it's terrible dear Jeannine's earrings were stolen and her apartment was broken into- I feel a little flattered. Don't worry Jeannine, I will happily replace your earrings! Kind of hilarious that these bad boys might be sitting in a NYC pawn shop some where.

Wednesday night sail boat racing has a special place in my heart. I have been doing Wednesday series since I was 7 or 8 maybe younger. I love that I can live in a city where sailing is so readily accessible.

Tonight I am going out to get my fix and have some drinks and good conversation after. I love/ am obsessed with this poster from Brainstorm Print and Design. Special thanks to Abbey I just discovered her blog and now I am behind schedule for the day - totally worth it!

I am in the midst of a move. Moving has got to be the biggest pain in the booty. Fortunately, so far it's going pretty smoothly. I am gradually moving things from Casey's apt and my former apt into our new apt. While Casey thinks I am crazy for moving things in waves, I am stoked that as each box or reusable bag goes in everything gets organized and placed. The idea being once our bigger furniture makes it in, we will easily be settle into our new space. I think this amazing bean bag chair hairy extravaganza would look amazing next to a gray couch and a Kelly green ottoman. Alas, pardon my absence while I play Sally home maker. One of my friends has this ring. I have yet to ask him if he likes it and likes the way it works, but I think it looks pretty cool. He's a bartender too, so I am sure it comes in handy in a pinch. On a side note, doesn't it seem like everything that can have a bottle opener feature does? Some of my sailing knives double as them, and my key for my bike lock has one. On any given day I am schlepping at least 3 of these! What does that say about me?

Functional Jewelry Week (Maybe a Fortnight)

There are few things in life that really perk me up- jewelry is definitely one of them. I love the crazy stuff in magazines that only Gaga or Fergie can pull off, and classic aesthetic of something by Elsa Perretti.

However, nothing rocks my world harder then something that's a twofer. That's right something that can have more then one purpose really makes me happy. Really it can be anything, but I happen to love jewelry that can do this. I guess my love affair dates back to one of my all time favorite movies, The Client. Susan Sarandon shows a very cute (mind you I was 10 when this movie came out) Brad Renfro her compass necklace. A symbol of her sobriety "to keep her going in the right direction." I also love compasses because I am a woman of the sea- so it's all the better.

Concert season is now upon us, and I couldn't be happier. Truth be told this image was from Casey, who was lucky enough to get out to Coachella. Look at all those hipsters. Oy. This is from the XX, arguably one of my new favorites this year. Sarah and I caught them at the Metro opening for Hot Chip. Pretty awesome, as was Hot Chip.
Hot Chip was an all out dance party and I've never been to a concert that people got down so much. It was fantastic and it was a Monday, incredible.

I've also seen Dr. Dog, which is always a good time. Next up is the Broken Bells but I might try to sneak into another show before that. Until then it's back to reality, I am currently planning a jewelry party and will be crafting a ton in the coming weeks. Wahooo!

today I have a stiff neck. It's completely debilitating my very busy life. I have about 900 things I could be doing but instead am traipsing about my apartment as my landlord and a bunch of swarthy men come in and out to prep the place for power washing. Luckily Casey put my herbal shoulder thingy in the freezer last night and it's very soothing. I plan to pop it in the microwave soon too. What's even crazier is my horoscope (which I never read) is oddly fitting:

This weekend is the first and only wedding Casey and I have this summer. It's destined to be a good time as they are getting married at his alma mater and from what I hear it's a really pretty chapel. Today I am totally bummed. I am trying to start a business and the amount of money it's going to take to get it going keeps adding up. I hate money and managing it- I lost about 3 hours of sleep last night because I just couldn't get it out of my head. It shouldn't have to be this complicated but it is and it's totally got me down. This morning while doing a little internet surfing (aka reading a few of my fav blogs) I stumbled across this...While this may seem like a normal picture of a web page to you it's actually from one of my favorite blogs - for me, for you... and she's writing about a jewelry designer named Laura Lombardi. LL is a talented (dare I say) metal smith but she also has the same name as one of my best friends on this earth. What are the odds? This one is for you Lombo! The Yeah Yeah Yeahs were incredible. Karen O has amazing stamina and danced the whole time. On another note the other audience members were horrendous and now I only want to go VIP to future concerts.... a girl can dream. So looking at my backyard today (on this wonderful 80 degree day in Chicago) I wish I owned...

This one comes from Marañon. It's located in Amsterdam and I went when I was with my friend Sam. We spent a lot of time test driving the hammocks one because it was college days in Amsterdam and we were well... you know and really enjoying each and every one. I think I have the appropriate set up in my back yard and could hang a hammock, just not sure how the old landlord would feel about that... any who don't I think I look pretty natural in this blue and yellow Moroccan style one.

Living in a major city you rarely mall shop. If you live in Chicago, like me, you know Michigan Ave has lots of glorified Malls. If you're like me you typically when you go to a mall you know which stores you're going to go to. That being said I haven't been in to an American Eagle in over 3 YEARS. I slipped in there 3 years ago when I needed a sweater before a party before the Chicago Mac Race in 2006. Suffice to say it's not my favorite store. When I saw Denise Richard's Little girl wearing this... I WAS SHOCKED when I saw that it was from American Eagle!
Too cute right.... yes I want it in my size!

Spring is in the air and thus there is tons of wedding coverage on the blogs, in daily emails, and I feel like I see one of those bride shows on every other minute (thank you daytime television.) I really love that DailyCandy is doing all this great wedding coverage because they have made it so easy to find awesome jewelry! Kudos DC!Here we have an Ah- May- ZING micro pave platinum with cushion cut diamond by the Ruby Door in Boston. UH! It's fabulous. I would definitely where it as one of those right hand diamonds on my middle finger so I can easily see it as I type my daily find on this blog!

As a day time babysitter I often make jewelry while watching crappy day time television... all while babies sleep of course. Today I am watching The Skulls, starring Joshua Jackson- who hasn't looked so good since D3/ Dawson's Creek. While it's has a super cheesy plot it is engaging and terrifying. I became intrigued and wikipedia'd the organization. Very interesting and who knew George H. W. Bush was such a sex pot?
